Welcome to VoteToronto2010.com, a new site about the issues, ideas and choices facing Torontonians as they prepare to go to the polls to elect a new mayor and a new council on October 25, 2010.
As of this inaugural post, there are exactly 9 months to go (274 days for those keeping track) until voting day. Nine months is an eternity when you consider that most provincial and federal election campaigns, officially speaking, last roughly 30 days. But even with nine months to go, Toronto’s municipal campaign is already in high gear, with a steady stream of campaign announcements, stump speeches, intrigue around who is supporting whom, and ideas to make this city and this region a better place.
VoteToronto2010.com is a non-partisan campaign by the Toronto Board of Trade to raise and define the most pressing issues facing our city, drive debate and mobilize all citizens to take part. The purpose of this site is to raise awareness about the upcoming municipal elections, including the issues, the options and the candidates, to encourage informed participation in the electoral process by Toronto voters and all residents in the Toronto region.
As you browse your way through this site, you’ll find pages where you can learn who is running for election and where to get more info on them. You’ll also find an outline of the four key issues in this election, as laid out in the recent Toronto Board of Trade report Vote Toronto 2010: Framework for a Better City.
As the campaign unfolds VoteToronto2010.com will add posts related to each of these four issues. We will also be posting on the candidates, their ideas, and the Board’s own proposals.
We want to hear from you. Register for the site and join the discussion. You can start by participating in our Six Words for Toronto challenge: tell us your vision, ambition or inspiration for the city, but do it in six words or less.
